Please read this great Austin American-Statesman profile of Hank Alrich, “Home with the Armadillo,” by Brad Buchholz.  Everyone who loves Austin owes a debt to this man and his friends.
To express gratitude, how about we follow his wonderful example?

…unsung hero. Guardian angel. Moved. Slept. Mopped. Donated. Built. Ran. Led. Business acumen. Reconfigured. Channeled. Gave. A spirit, a communal essence, an allegiance to art and dreams, garden and nature. Reflected Austin’s live-and-let-live ethic. Built by the people who ran it. Welcomed and nurtured creativity. Didn’t manufacture anything but an experience. It’s not a question of being inside or outside the box. It was more like: Has anybody ever seen the box? Supporting the larger enterprise. The responsible party. Championing the idea that the Armadillo audiences were stakeholders in the enterprise. Accentuating the notion of service, attention to bottom line, the notion of thrift. Takes responsibility seriously. Service to art. Respected leader. I never saw him get angry, not once. Turned a profit. Accomplished what we needed.

Let’s extend his quintessentially Austin legacy as we create our own. Talk about a good time.

Different people have different ideas about goals.  For instance, David Allen advocates trying a bunch and seeing what sticks, while Leo Babauta recommends setting as few as possible.
Blogging about goals occurs every year around New Year’s Resolutions time.  Here’s a good example from Andrew Hyde.
We’re having fun updating Amplifier’s strategic plan and deciding which compelling opportunities to tackle next.  As I think through my other, personal goals, I’m focusing on:
running: I want to extend last year’s fun (825 miles run, Austin Half Marathon, Imogene Pass Run) with 1,000 miles, the Austin Marathon, some trail races around town, and at least one cool trip run.
photography: I finally got a cool SLR and want to have some fun learning.
reading: I’ve neglected books for too long and am eager to return.
Austin: I want to help Austin become the most web-engaged city ever.  Austin should be super-crazy-strikingly dense with people who know and practice GTD; who publish and participate and express themselves online; and who thus enjoy a more vibrant city and personal experience.  The Regulars comprise one piece of this effort.  Please join us whenever you can.  New pieces will also launch this year.
I will also address goals in other areas.  This list is a decent start, though.  I am most excited about the Austin crusade. It’s already a blast and will only get cooler.
